I have two more weeks of telecommuting to Enlighten and then TA Orientation begins at Syracuse University. Things are calm for the moment, almost inducing a sense of normalcy, but the impending school year looms; undergrads are clearly already starting to move back into town.
After quite a bit of effort over the last couple of weeks, I’ve finally finished redoing the breakfast nook, which was an unexpectedly difficult and drawn-out process. I’m very happy with the results, however, and we are almost completely moved in. There are still about a half-dozen small boxes of miscellanea to unpack (and the dozens of boxes of books, but those don’t count) and there are a few things to hang on the walls. The space is finally settled in and functional. It finally feels like home.
Syracuse itself is something else, though - in our efforts to get our living space in order, we’ve done very little to explore the town. We went out this last weekend to a movie and to couple of nearby state parks, and we have dusted off our bikes and inline skates, but that’s about it. I’m fairly content with the low-key summer evenings around the house, but now that the breakfast nook is done, I’m going to concentrate on finishing up my thesis. It’s way overdue for completion and I don’t want to start a new program without properly wrapping up the prior one!

Thanks! It was so much more work than it should have been, but over the next few years I’m pretty sure I’ll feel it was well worth it. You can see this room through three others, so if I had left it dark and sad, it would have pulled the others down with it.
