Over the last few weeks, we’ve had several farewell get-togethers with friends and family, and there are more to come, already marked on the calendar. I’m glad we have the time to visit with people before we move away and it has been a lot of fun, but it is also emotionally exhausting. “They” always say that relocation is one of the more stressful life events, and it certainly seems true.
The packing continues, and our apartment is starting to look pretty bare. The moving unit is ordered, and my fingers are crossed that we can close within a few days of its arrival in Syracuse, as we will already be without most of our belongings for almost a week at minimum. I can’t help but feel anxious about the logistics of it all, particularly as our closing date isn’t set yet but our moving dates are pretty much committed.
One particularly frustrating unintended consequence of the relocation process is that I have pretty much given up on the idea of finishing my thesis before we move; my new goal is to finish the edits by the last week of July and have the whole thing done, printed and shipped, before school starts. Everything will work out, one way or another.
