A good friend whom I haven’t seen in awhile asked for an update in a nutshell, so here’s a quick summary of life.
- Before 1996: youth
- 1996 - 2000: Alma College, got a BA in Math and then moved to Ann Arbor.
- 2000 - 2001: Worked as an AmeriCorps*VISTA for Washtenaw Literacy doing volunteer coordination.
- 2001 - 2002: Worked at NEW doing logistics and program support for their nonprofit management workshops. My brother Neil died in late 2001 and Everett and I were married in April of 2002.
- 2002 - 2005: Worked at The Purple Rose Theatre Company as Office Manager and Info Goddess. Everett did his Master of Science in Information from the University of Michigan School of Information, specializing in Library and Information Services and graduating in 2005.
- 2005 - 2007: Worked at Enlighten doing web analytics for high profile clients while continuing to do web design on contract for the Purple Rose and going to school at SI for my MSI, specializing at first in Human-Computer Interaction and later in Just Information. In late 2006 was accepted for a PhD in Information Science & Technology at the Syracuse University School of Information Studies, and my mom died in early 2007. I successfully defended my thesis and graduated in April 2007.
- Coming soon in 2007: Buying a house and moving to Syracuse in July; both of us will telecommute temporarily. My program starts in late August and will probably take four or five years to complete.
- Vague unsecured plans for 2008: Going to CHI 2008 in Florence, Italy in April. Possibility of an awesome summer internship in California. Hopefully get the floors refinished in the house.
As of yesterday, we have conditional approval for a mortgage, and it looks like we’ll close on the house and move in during the first week of July. The last seven years in Ann Arbor have been good to us, but we’re looking forward to the change of scenery.
