We accepted the counter-offer on the house on Jamesville in Syracuse, and expect to move in around the last week of June. It’s terribly exciting, though the prospect of moving is less than pleasant. Everett has been boxing up books for weeks now, and yesterday he pulled two emptied bookshelves out of our bedroom. I’ve also started packing up some odds and ends. The apartment looks half-hearted now, with the comforting completeness of it rapidly disappearing. There is still a lot to be done between now and then, but it’s amazing how much time I have to devote to every little thing now that school is out.
I still have a couple of fairly significant projects this summer, which will be tricky to handle. First, of course, is finishing up my thesis. There’s not so much to do, but it’s hard to keep working on it when I have so many other distractions. Second is the long-awaited redesign of the home page for the Purple Rose Theatre Company, which will be my final performance for the company. The project will stretch my skills and require just enough time that I keep procrastinating on starting it, but I’m committed to getting it done before September since that is when my contract will be up. Third is some updates for my own site, which doesn’t sound like much but does require a fair bit of final semester post-processing to generate the content.
Big chunks of work are my procrastination roadblocks. When I know a task needs a few solid uninterrupted hours to achieve the best outcomes, with some follow-up time required as well, I tend to delay getting started because it’s so hard to put aside enough time to make that happen. The thing is that with school out for the summer, I actually do have the time, but I’m so conditioned to not having availability that I’m procrastinating for no reason! Fortunately, I’m being very productive in my procrastination, so when I get around to starting those bigger tasks, every small distraction will already have been handled.
