We spent our weekend looking for a house in Syracuse, and we saw several lovely properties. We also saw some scary basements, which seems typical for our price range and desired location. After seeing about 10 properties on Saturday, we made an offer on a cute bungalow near the cemeteries adjacent to Syracuse University, which is really a perfect location for us. Pictures with all my notes about how I want to redecorate are already up on Flickr. All signs look good so far, but we will probably be waiting another day or two to know if our offer is accepted. It’s some of the most excruciating waiting ever, right up there with waiting to find out if you got into the program.
Suddenly, everything is going so smoothly and so fast that I hardly know what to make of it. I have just a few things to finish on my thesis, and I’m really excited about the PhD program at the School of Information Studies. I’m planning to go to CHI in Florence next April and I may have an enviable summer internship for next year lined up already. It also looks like the majority of my mother’s estate will be settled very soon; that could even happen in time for closing on a house, if everything works out like clockwork. It looks possible. I am so hopeful.
