Yep, that’s me. I went and mastered some science of information, and technically that makes me a librarian by some standards, because my degree is accredited by the ALA. I wouldn’t hold a candle to my husband or classmates as a librarian, but I’m very good at being my own flavor of information professional. To say that I’ve learned a lot in the last two years of graduate school would be an understatement; my life has changed immensely in that time, and I’ve more such change ahead of me.
After graduation, CHI 2007 was a whirlwind experience, just like last year. I took 4,010 photos in just 5 days, though I “kept” only about 1200 of them, more or less. Sadly, although I took four film cameras with me, I never used any of them. The actual sessions that I attended at CHI were also excellent and even inspirational, though I made it to fewer than I would have liked. There is fodder for future blog posts as I digest my thoughts on the paper sessions on photosharing and “online representations of self.” It was intensely fascinating stuff for me, and my gears are spinning thinking about how to make a novel contribution in the CHI community.
I’m living in this strange transitional space now, with many major events just past and many more just ahead. In the next two months, I’m moving to a new state, buying a house, changing jobs, and getting started in a new academic context. It’s fairly disconcerting and stressful, but we’re going house hunting in Syracuse again this weekend and we’re very excited about it.
