The long, dark, hibernation-inducing winter nights are more tolerable with a little knitting in the soothing glow of the television. I recently finished my long-awaited tweedy green wool socks:
On Christmas Eve, I started in on a sporty hoodie with a sweatshirt cut, made with precious soy silk (South West Trading Company’s Phoenix) in a girly mix of pink and purple, and I’ve finished the front and back so far. I’m working the sleeves in reverse, top-down, because I expect to run short of yarn and 3/4 sleeves would be fine with me. I’ve just finished the raglan shoulders on the sleeves, and I’m working them both at the same time to ensure that they match perfectly.
One of my Christmas gifts was a trip to Threadbear Fiber Arts Studio in Lansing, a top-notch yarn store and by far the best I’ve ever enjoyed. I picked up enough yarn for two more sweaters: one is a slick orange tape yarn, and the other is a gorgeous kettle-dyed single-ply Uruguayan merino, Malabrigo, in a color called cognac. I don’t actually have enough room in my yarn stash cupboard to accomodate it all, which makes me eager to get the Janda sweater finished so I can start another.
